Greece is the reason and inspiration behind the invention of opera as a genre. During the Renaissance, the Florentine Duke Ferdinando dei Medici commissioned a group known as the Camerata Fiorentina, to research and discover the music used by the Greeks in their dramas. along with everybody else since then, they failed. But in the process, in 1597, they invented melodrama i.e. opera.
This unique performance features some of the best voices Greece has to offer.
